Twelve towns for Douzelage Global Greening
12 of our partner towns (with 15 landmarks) turned green to mark the Irish national holiday St Patrick’s Day last Wednesday! An initiative of Tourism Ireland, the Global Greening takes place every year and this year a record 700 sites across the globe participated. Places like the Sydney Opera House, Niagara Falls, the Empire State Building and the London Eye were joined by our partner towns for this year’s event, coordinated by our Irish partners in Bundoran. Shane Smyth of Discover Bundoran added his thanks to each of the participating towns ‘We are so grateful to all of our partner towns across Douzelage who once again rose to the occasion, went green and became a little bit Irish for the day – a huge thank you to all of them.’
Participating in Global Greening affords our partners the opportunity of international publicity through Tourism Ireland with our Latvian partners in Sigulda featuring on the instagram account of the Guardian newspaper to over 4 million followers.
