Douzelage guests participate in St Patrick’s Day celebrations
11 guests from 3 Douzelage partner towns joined our Irish partners in Bundoran this past weekend to celebrate the Irish national holiday St Patrick’s Day. It has become a yearly tradition for delegates from across the Douzelage network to travel to the Irish town to experience the fun and excitement of a day full of parades, shamrock and greenery.
Laure, Ghislaine, Jeff, Catherine, Didier, Laurence, Jean Baptiste and Nadia travelled from Granville (France), Dominique and Erin travelled from Meerssen (Netherlands) and Luka travelled from Škofja Loka (Slovenia) to take part in the traditional parade along with local Bundoran community groups, businesses and marching bands which was also broadcast live on Facebook.
Laure and Jeff had the special honour of carrying the parade banner at the front of the procession which marched for 2km in front of thousands of people who had lined the street to view the annual event.
Chairperson of Douzelage Bundoran Shane Smyth was delighted to welcome the guests to the town “every year we issue the invite and were thrilled that 11 of our Douzelage friends made the journey to be with us and take part in the parade. St Patrick’s Day is both special and important to us here in Ireland and we always try to ensure that as many people as possible get to experience the day! Thanks to our partners from Granville, Meerssen and Škofja Loka for being with us.”
The group also visited a number of tourist attractions local to Bundoran including the Gleniff Horseshoe, Mullaghmore Head and Glencar Waterfall.
